Officially, UEFA announces the host stadium for Euro 2020
The European Football Association (UEFA) has announced the new stadium that will host some matches from the Euro 2021 tournament, which will be held after the end of the current season.
The 2021 European Nations Championship matches are to be held in 12 European cities, and one of these cities is Bilbao, Spain, which was to host 3 group stage matches at San Mames Stadium, owned by Athletic Bilbao.
Corona virus transfers hosting rights from Bilbao to Seville
UEFA stated that the hosting rights had been withdrawn from San Mames Stadium due to its inability to meet the requirements for the attendance of the fans.
UEFA wants the masses to be present in Euro 2021 matches by at least 25%, and this is a percentage that Bilbao cannot achieve, because there are conditions that must be met, which are that the percentage of people infected with the Coronavirus does not exceed 40 people per 10,000 people, and that the percentage of people who receive the vaccine reaches 60%.
UEFA decided to transfer the three matches to Seville, specifically to the La Cartuja stadium, and Spain's national team matches will be played in the group stage against Sweden, Poland and Slovakia.
